How do you mark text in Linux in order to change the font size and spacing and so on?

That depends on the program you are using. If you are using OpenOffice, just highlight the text and select the font and size in the toolbar.

A plain text editor (like emacs) can only use one font and font size for the entire screen. However you can change the font and size by pressing *Shift* and left clicking on the text window and selecting one of the font sets.

P.S.

PuTTY is a terminal emulator. It simply deals in plain text. I believe PuTTY has options to change the font and font size, but you cannot expect the text to be formatted as it is in Word. How do you mark text in Linux in order to change the font size and spacing and so on?
That would depend on the program you want to change it in. ';In Linux'; doesn't mean much, because Linux is the kernel, not something that displays fonts the way a program does. How do you mark text in Linux in order to change the font size and spacing and so on?
I use the same techniques (and mouse actions) under OpenOffice that I used under Windoze.
